Grace Upon Grace

All mankind has been born with the Adamic sin nature as Scripture says: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally, sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]? [Matt. 1 3:15-17; Mark 7:21-23; Eph. 4:20-24.]" Jeremiah 17:9 (Amp.).

Jesus Christ was willing to take our punishment, thus making us right [righteous] with the Heavenly Father by dying upon the Cross. "For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life." John 3:16 (Amp.).

Much more was accomplished for our salvation AFTER the Cross than before it. While Christ's Body was in the tomb, He went to Hell for the salvation of sinners, thus freeing repentant sinners from going there. The Apostle Peter writes: "For Christ [the Messiah Himself] died for sins once for all, the Righteous for the unrighteous (the Just for the unjust, the Innocent for the guilty), that He might bring us to God. In His human body he was put to death, but he was made alive in the spirit, in which He went and preached to the spirits in prison. [The souls of those] who long before in the days of Noah had been disobedient, when God's patience waited during the building of the ark in which a few [people ], actually eight in number, were saved through water. [Gen. 6-8.]" 1 Peter 3:18-20 (Amp).

The Apostle Paul, writing to the church at Corinth said, "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is mere delusion [futile, fruitless], and you are still in your sins [under the control and penalty of sin]." 1 Corinthians 15:17 (Amp.). So without Christ's Resurrection, His Death on the Cross would have been in vain. "But God - so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which he loved us, even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation). And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together (giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One)." Ephesians 2:4-6.
