The Revelation, which God gave to John while he was a prisoner on the Island of Patmos (approx AD 63) showed him "things which must shortly come to pass" (Rev. 1:1). It begins with letters written to the seven then existing churches in Asia, warning them to repent. The Book is written in symbolic language depicting the persecution of the early Christians, God's miraculous deliverance for the Remnant of them, and the coming destruction that would befall the city of Jerusalem in AD 70.
Spread Out Like A Carpet
"Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee." Zechariah 14:1-5.
Micah 2:12-13 also refers to this: "I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the Remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the Lord on the head of them."
This phenomena actually occurred for God's faithful Remnant people who were in Jerusalem, as God split the mountain and made a valley of safety for them to flee from the destruction of that city. After the people of God went to safety, God closed up the valley again just as He opened the Red Sea for them to cross, and then allowed the waters to return to their natural flow again (Exodus 14:15-29).
John the Revelator describes it this way: "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood: and the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places." Revelation 6:12-14.
In the Middle East, small carpets were sold in a single roll. However, when the carpets were extremely large or heavy, they were rolled from each end towards the center, somewhat like the Old Testament Scrolls the Jewish Rabbis read to the people who met in their Synagogues.
When a customer wanted to purchase half of the scrolled, extra-long carpet, it was already conveniently centered to be cut in half. Or, if a customer wished to have more than half of the extra-long carpet, it could be extended from the center of any length preferred. Also, the scrolled, extra-long carpets could easily be carried in balance upon the shoulders of as many carriers required to handle the weight with each end of the scrolled carpet resting upon their shoulders, and the center on top of their heads.
Jesus Prays For His Disciples
Just as God led His people out of Egypt and through the valley of dry ground under the Red Sea, and for 40 years they moved gradually into Judaism; Christ led the then Remnant of them of His Christianity through the valley of the split mountain 40 years after His death, and they were to fulfill Micah 5:7-8. Jesus prayed upon the Mount Of Olives (world/earth/land) and as God, His Feet were blessed because He brought His "Authoritative Message" to the world/earth/land from Heaven to His Disciples; wherein after being sanctified (purified) likened to Jesus, they, too, were able to take Jesus' Authoritative Message of Redemption, wherever their feet went to others, bringing tidings of great joy to all the world/earth/land of the First Century of their contemporaries (Isaiah 52:7).
Thus, the Apostles were entitled to Jesus' new customized Way, Truth and Life formation; to consubstantiate (unite, hold fast and value) the New Covenant while the Old Covenant was passing away during their lifetime (2 Corinthians 5:17). And then, regaining the Everlasting Covenant forever!
Since all the Disciples, except Judas - the man of perdition, had received the self-same anointing to carry Jesus' Authoritative Message - being they all were sanctified to do such - is why Jesus exclaimed to them of those off their timings, that they (including Paul) would do greater works than He Himself had done (John 14:12). That does not mean the Apostles became greater than Jesus. It just means that Jesus limited Himself to His physical human nature. But they, being multiplied and sanctified, were twelve Apostles like Himself, spreading the same Authoritative Message which had become stabilized in solidarity into their own receptive souls to make up the constituency (pattern to be gratefully appreciated) together to do such with Jesus' unlimited wisdom, knowledge, power, and protection in order to carry and subdue all things pertaining to salvation to the then known world/earth/land which was under their feet during their lifetime (Matthew 10:5-14; 28:18-20). A battalion for the Gospel.
Thus, the birth of Christendom was brought into full existence of a brand New Theocracy after the fading away and dissolution of the Old Covenant of Temple Worship being divorced by Christ Himself in AD 70 by the consumed annihilation of Jerusalem at that time.
This phenomenal change in the variances of the specified requirements was not an idea, perception, or a synthesis so easily understood by the Jewish Nation being rejected and divorced because of their non-confiding and non-abiding in His Kingdom. Therefore, the fertile Basin/Bastion of the Euphrates River (water representing peoples) dried up. Not only did the literal water dry up according to history (See Revelation 16:12), but in the then contemporaneous lives of its people, their spiritual worship dried up as well - being it waxed "old like a garment." Psalm 102:26.
The people living there of Jewish origin rebelled against the change of the constancy God was requiring them to adopt - or be lost in rejection of the New Constructional Consultational Reformation towards the New Kingdom Of God - The Heavenly - which was not the physical world/earth/land!! Herein lies the symbolism of the splitting of the Mount Of Olives figuratively speaking, because of the uncircumcised spiritual hearts of those of them of they who rejected Christ's Kingdom through the "changing of the guard" for an intimate one-on-ONE relationship ... forever!
Thus the going forth through the feet of the Apostles, not only concentrated on the Eastern Euphrates River Basin/ Bastion, which had a limited extent of receivership; but extended to all the then-known Western portions of the Diaspora Nations. While going West, it concentered and opened like a carpet both the Southern and Northern Diaspora Nations as well. The Disapora Nations were ruled under Roman taxation and levied control, having a leploci or law of the place. By refusing to be saved, delivered and put in a state of safety, Paul had to go West to his work of calling the Gentiles to their need of Redemptive Glorification in Christ (Acts 13:44-46; See chapters 16-20).
The drying up of the Euphrates River Basin/Bastion represented the Jewish Nation that was then and there rejecting Christ as their all in all ( Matthew 1:21). How is it with Christians today? Have you, dear reader, accepted His All for your all??
The splitting, or rolling out like a carpet (Revelation 6:14), figuratively speaking, can also represent the "weightier matters of the law" which were fit for even distribution of all 613 laws and elementary ordinances of the Old Nation of Israel that Paul had to ordinate the New Covenant comparatively to the inordinate flagellations of the Old Covenant. To leave in place one scroll side to completely unravel it Northward, and likewise, unroll the other Southward, for the unravelings of the East to West would also make unravelings available as well. The keeping together of the two scrolls was to the Jewish Nation the Law of God never to become unraveled.
That is, until Jesus kept all the Law and the Prophets' testimonials; putting them under His Feet for the New Covenant of His All Glorious Sovereign Grace of the Authoritative Message of the Gospel of Peace perpetuated by His Kingdom - which is not of this world/earth/land - of Peace forever to all faithful Believers of His Faithful Word, Subjective Faith, Objective Faith, and Conductive Faith for others to be and do likewisedly. Christ now becomes the Law Of The Spirit.
So the saying; "from east to west like lightening"; no, not of the speed of lightening although the message spread rather quickly, but of the whole coverage of all the Diaspora - nationalities, peoples, tongues, cultures,, etc.
Do you begin to see or get a picture in symbolism here?? This part of that world was theMount Of Olives splitting all the way from the Eastern occupied concentrated area of Jewish converts to Christianity; and it probably would have died there if it wasn't for the Apostle Paul's readiness to carry the Divine Message as far West as he could possibly travel because the Jews were unwilling to concept such a change as was necessary for Christendom to entirely replace the Old Covenant of Jewish forsaken preeminence, and the Cretians were "slow bellies" to digest the Authoritative Message as well (Titus 1:12).
The Apostle Paul's Ministry
God could use Paul immensely because Paul ... knew and understood ... was able to wisely construct and administer ... challenge and convey ... ascertain and detect. He could defeat and make concrete the "changing of the guard" from Judaism to Christianity so well defined because he knew both of them implicitly and explicitly by experience.
In addition, Paul was extremely educated in all the languages spoken during his contemporaneous timings that he could harmonize the All Glorious Gospel to any Nation, Kindred, Tongue, or Culture in facilitating the then lexicostatistics of all the regions he traveled and traversed (See 1 Corinthians 14:18).
Today, in our modern societies and cultural acquisitionings, the process would be called "glottochronology," or combining formed languages and datings of branches from them and from one another. This should not to be understood as "prattle" as the suppositional acclaimed Pentecostal Movement of a "glossolalia" follows after - those echoic ecstatic utterances that is adhered to, and/or alluded to as a necessitated quality needed for a second baptismal-proven power for unbelievers; as this was a one-time miracle at the time of Pentecost for unbelievers to hear the Gospel in their very own language; and because they did, 3,000 converts came to Christ in one day. Christ did not prattle syll-able-ist-ics or repeat parts of words over and over again!
Thus the Old Covenant was being inculcated at the same time the New Covenant was effecting Christ's causatives towards Redemptive Glorification - some 40 years in transition - from the Cross towards the splitting of the Mount of Olives for those then, and also for our understanding NOW!!
